How to: Do Your Job
Sep 29, 2018Jobs can be tough. Deadlines, intimidating bosses and a lack of positive feedback are all recipes for a stressful work environment.
Below I’ve listed a few work tips that will help you.
Have a Support System
It’s really important to have friends or co-workers you can trust because we all need to vent sometimes. If you’re not able to share your fears about work then you may end up believing things that aren’t true. Talking to other people gives you a chance to see if you are diving off the deep end or have actual solid concerns. I highly recommend incorporating a cocktail into this conversation and you’ll be right as rain in no time. Also, remember that conversations are a two-way street so after you’re done venting, let your friend have time to do the same!
Forgetting the Personal Aspect
A lot of times we forget that work is a place of business. At the end of the day, it’s not really important that you’re a nice person. Your boss and the company ultimately just cares that you do the work.
Try to remember this when you start worrying about things unrelated to your work. For example, if you feel a certain coworker has started giving you the cold shoulder or you think your boss hates you for x, y, z reason. Brush these thoughts off and tell yourself
This is a business and I am being paid to work, not to make friends or make people like me.
It’s actually really important to remember these things because if not you’ll find yourself worrying about work relationships before bed and carrying unnecessary negative energy.
Stop Making Excuses
If you make a mistake try not to give the reasons behind why it happened. Managers really hate that. They just want to see that you corrected the mistake and that you hopefully won’t make it again. It’s really annoying when someone makes a mistake and then starts to justify it.
Your Appearance
This is a big one. People respond better to well-groomed and well-dressed people but they respond even better to good workers.
If you find yourself having a bad day because your hair didn’t come out right or finding yourself arriving to work late because you spent too much time working on your appearance then you’re fired from life. Seriously.
Everyone has bad hair days. That should have no effect on your mood.
If you find yourself in this predicament then just decide to forget about your appearance entirely that day and make it a point to focus on other people and your work. You can even just pretend that you look good. Just trick your mind.
No matter what leave for work on time, try to fix your hair or makeup on the way to work instead of making yourself late because of it and also forget your appearance, don’t let it give you a bad day because you don’t feel comfortable.
Positive Personality
This is a tough one. Its hard to pretend to be happy when you’re not but it’s important to try. Everyone at your job has a life outside of work that may or may not be going smoothly. So, keep this in mind and try to leave your problems at the door when you enter your workplace. Try to greet everyone with a good morning and a smile every day. Don’t take out your frustrations on them.
